Coffee for your Body

We talked before about the amazing effects coffee can have on your mind, but what about your body? In addition to giving your brain a boost, coffee can also help your body. The caffeine in coffee increases alertness and gives you energy to get moving or do something active, like take a yoga class or go for a jog.  Coffee itself has very few calories, so you don’t have to worry about adding extra time to your workout just to burn it off.

Coffee also helps with post-workout soreness. Some studies show that drinking coffee after a workout helps reduce muscle aches and pains. Sometimes a cup of coffee or two helps even more than taking a pain reliever. Remember, it is still important to stay hydrated and to drink plenty of water when working out.

Additionally, for all of you watching your weight, a cup of black coffee contains only a few calories (about five). It’s the milk and flavorings that add extra calories.

Cappu-what?? The history of the cappuccino

We’ve talked before about what a cappuccino is, but do you know where it originally came from? Or how long it has been around? Read on to find out more about the history of the cappuccino. You might just be surprised at what you learn!

This drink became popular in the 1900s and has stayed that way ever since.  The word cappuccino comes from the Italian word capuchin, which means hood or small cap. In the early 16th century, there was a particular group of Franciscan monks called Capuchin monks, named for the hoods they wore. This is where cappuccino originated.

To remind you, a cappuccino is made from one or two shots of espresso topped with equal parts of steamed milk and steamed milk foam. People often get cappuccinos confused with lattes. The basic difference between a latte and a cappuccino is that a latte is much milkier. A latte is made with a double shot of espresso topped with steamed milk and finished with a quarter-inch of steamed milk foam. The milk is poured down the side of the cup to cause the two liquids to swirl together, creating an almost marbleized appearance.

Come get a cup of gourmet coffee from Global Peace Factory in Frisco, Texas! We serve some of the best cappuccinos around, and we offer a variety other menu items, including teas, frappes, smoothies, salads, paninis, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and much more!

Eliminate refrigerator odor. If you just can’t get rid of a smell in your refrigerator, try placing a bowl of coffee beans inside it. This should help eliminate any leftover odors.

Fresh breath. Ran out of gum or mints? No problem! Just suck on a coffee bean for a few minutes, and your breath should be back to normal.

Add to potted plants. You can add ground coffee beans to the plant pots in your house. It will help keep flies and other mites at bay and improve the quality of the soil. However, do not use in excess.

Clean your pots and pans. Coarsely ground coffee beans have been found to be very effective for cleaning greasy pans.

Keep cats away from your garden. Coffee beans can also help keep cats away from your garden. Grind up some coffee beans, mix them with orange peels, and place them around your plants. This should help keep kitties from digging in your garden without harming your plants.

Unique ways to use coffee beans: Part 1

Help shrink your pores. Believe it or not, coffee beans can actually help shrink your pores. Put two cups of medium or light roast beans (they have the most caffeine) in a bowl of hot water. Once the water has cooled a bit, splash some of it on your face. This will help give you a “tighter” feeling in your skin.

Freshen up your face. Another way to use coffee beans for beauty is to coarsely grind coffee beans and apply them to your wet face. Then gently scrub the grounds on your face. This creates an exfoliating effect and helps get rid of any dead or dry skin.

Make a pie weight. All of you bakers know how crucial a pie weight can be when baking. Simply line your pie crust with foil and cover with coffee beans. This will help keep the crust from rising too much.

Put a candle in its place. To help keep a candle in its place, try filling your vase, hurricane, or candleholder with coffee beans. This will help keep the candle steady and catch any overflow wax.

Get rid of smelly hands. If your hands are smelly from cutting onions, cooking, or cleaning, try using coffee beans to help get rid of the smell. Simply rub some coffee beans between the palms of your hands for a few seconds to help get rid of any odor.

Low-calorie coffee drinks

Oftentimes people come into Global Peace Factory looking for low-calorie options. We thought we would share some tips and tricks to help you when it comes to knowing what to order. Check out our list below!

Drip coffee. A cup of black coffee has very few calories and can help give you a boost for your morning workout. If you can’t drink it black, try adding low-fat or skim milk and a zero-calorie sweetener.

Hold the whip. Whipped cream can add quite a few calories to your favorite coffee drink. Ask the barista to skip the whip and save yourself some calories.

Choose low-fat milk. Many coffee and espresso drinks include milk. Ask your barista to replace whole or 2% milk with a low-fat option like 1% or skim.

Try a tea. Like coffee, many teas have very few calories on their own. It is typically the sugar or other flavor additives that rack up the calories. Try an iced green tea or a chai tea latte with low-fat milk.

Watch your portion size. This one might be obvious, but the bigger the cup, the more calories.

Come get a cup of the best coffee in Dallas from Global Peace Factory! We offer a variety of low-calorie drinks as well as other healthy menu items like some of our paninis and salads.
